The SAT will still be given on paper in 2022. However, fewer students took the SAT than in prior years as a result of the change to test-optional college admissions. In order to overcome this issue and keep up with post-covid norms, SAT will totally switch to digital starting in 2023. The examination has a two-hour time limit and is totally digital.

Additionally, it must be Wi-Fi capable and have a battery life of at least three hours.
Students are not permitted to test using multiple devices or mobile phones, and device privacy screens are not permitted.
On test day, all other running programs and applications must be shut down. Although College Board advises students to carry a power cord or portable charger, it is impossible to know whether they will have access to an outlet. If the gadget is a tablet, they may also bring an external keyboard and mouse for it.

Devices Managed by Schools

On devices controlled by the school, students can take exams. The school staff will need to install Bluebook on Chromebooks that are managed by the school. The student can either ask the school to install Bluebook on other school-owned laptops or tablets or ask for permission to do it themselves.

Students who don’t have access to a device can ask College Board to lend them one. At least 30 days prior to the test date, they need to register and complete the device request. This provides us enough time to handle the request and make sure the item gets to the testing facility in plenty of time. These lent gadgets will come preconfigured with Bluebook.

Getting the Device Ready for Tests

However, after registering, students will see their registration appear in the app five days prior to the test. Students can download Bluebook at any time before the test.
They can then finish setting up the exam and acquire their entry ticket through the app. They will need to check in on the testing gadget on the actual test day.

IMPORTANT: Students who use a testing device loaned
by College Board will receive the device at the center on
test day. They’ll need to complete exam setup before they
can access an admission ticket for check in. They should
plan to arrive at the center 30 minutes early to complete
this process.

Device Testing Requirements

On laptops or tablets running Windows:

The computer must be running Windows 10 or a later version. For one exam, the device has to have 250 MB of storage space available. An extra 100 MB is needed for each additional exam.

Mac laptops:

The computer must be running macOS 10.11 or a later version. For one exam, the device has to have 400 MB of storage space available, plus an extra 100 MB for each consecutive exam.

Apple iPads:

The device must run iOS 13.4 or a later version. For one exam, the device has to have 150 MB of disk space available, and an extra 100 MB is needed for each additional exam.

For Chromebooks administered by the school:

The computer must be running Chrome OS 83 or a later version. For one exam, the device has to have 150 MB of disk space available, and an extra 100 MB is needed for each additional exam.
